Tattoo History - Sir Martin Frobisher
Sir Martin Frobisher
The English sailor Sir Martin Frobisher was born in 1535 and died in 1595 and is considered the most fascinating appearances of the british seafaring aside Englands world circumnavigators and corsairs. With great courage, imperturbable durability and a sense for early geography he set sail three times for journeys to discover the north west passage to china, but always failed.
He finally received his share of fame anyway when he brought an Eskimo woman home from one of his journeys. The woman was wearing tattoos on her forehead and chin and was a sensation in Europe in the middle of the 16th century for a short period.
